Brandy is back in the spotlight as she releases her latest album, Two Eleven. After a couple years of television appearances, and a brief rap stint with Timbaland, it seems as if Brandy is back to tell us her story. After the classic Never Say Never, fans have continually supported Brandy hoping to relive the 90s R&B era. Has Two Eleven been birthed to quench our thirst?
Brandy’s signature raspy yet warm voice has matured quite a bit in the past couple of years. In the song “No Such Thing as Too Late”, you can hear the strength that has developed in Brandy’s voice and her style’s evolution. As Brandy continued through her career, she has experimented with different genres and sounds, which definitely helped cultivate this album.
The production definitely stands out on it’s own. Producer Bangladesh and producer/songwriter Sean Garrett helped Brandy develop the skeleton of the project, while producers and songwriters including Rico Love, Chris Brown, and Frank Ocean also brought elements to Two Eleven to help implement genres outside of Brandy’s comfort lane.
Brandy’s Top 10 Music Videos
I don’t know if “progressive edge” is quite the name I would give to Brandy’s music, but if it makes her and her team feel better, it’s working. It’s apparent that the majority of our favorite R&B artists are determined to rebrand themselves and call their music anything but R&B, but what many people fail to realize, it’s not what you call it, it’s what it sounds like.
As many of the mainstream music gurus and chart counters listen to Two Eleven, many people might point out that with the exception of “Put It Down” with Chris Brown, there aren’t many “radio songs” as if it’s a negative thing. Trying to please the masses is the reason why music is losing its quality. Kudos to Brandy for creating a great album. Not only will you want to hit repeat, but it’ll make you reach back in the archives to hear some of Brandy’s classics.
