Atlanta will ring in the New Year sans a brilliant marketer. Steve Canal, MillerCoors’ southeast field marketing manager has been tapped by the big brass at MillerCoors. He’s on the move and headed to the Windy City to take on a new role in the Commerce and Community Partnerships Division effective Jan. 7, 2013.
“This new position is dear to my heart. I will be working with our community partners, nonprofit organizations like the NAACP, National Urban League and 100 Black Men of America, and a lot of our multicultural partners to develop programs similar to the one that we did with the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund,” Canal shares about his new job conducting citizenry marketing and developing innovative campaigns.
“I will work with these organizations nationally to develop programs for retail while giving back to the community. With the programs here in the southeast, I always tied them to the community and now I will be able to do this on a national scale. I am passionate and excited about taking this on for the New Year. It’s a way for us to give back. With Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, we worked with them in providing financial assistance to college students and locally we partnered with 100 Black Men’s Project Success, which is developing young men professionally.”
A New York native, Canal celebrated his sixth anniversary in Atlanta this past September. Although he will miss the “relationships in the film and entertainment, food and beverage, media and marketing industries, as well as the love he got here in this market,” he’s excited about moving to Chicago “because it’s a beautiful city. I miss being around water. I look forward to the summer festivals, like Taste of Chicago, and the beaches. I will even appreciate the snow.”
What’s the first thing Canal will do when he arrives in Chicago?
“One thing Atlanta has taught me to do is to enjoy good food. When I get to Chicago, I am going to sample their new restaurants, walk through the city to just take it all in,” he closes.
