Celebrities who stay fit doing Zumba

The Zumba craze is taking over gyms and living rooms around the world. The Latin dance-inspired cardio class promises to work out your core and arm and leg muscles while sweating to the music, and fans have revealed that they’ve burned hundreds  of calories in one session (although more realistic estimates hover around 400 to 500 calories per 45 minutes). There’s no disputing, however, that Zumba is a great way to work out, and many celebrities agree.

Here are a few famous fans of Zumba!

OK when I first saw all these pictures back in September, I was thinking, she’s not that big, this is ridiculous. But this weekend, I saw her on TV playing at Indian Wells. For a professional athlete, she is HUGE, her BMI would out her in the obese category. She has talented hands, and great stroke production, but she’s not quick around the court and doesn’t change direction well. If she doesn’t get into better shape, it will hold her back. And we’re not talking about looking sexy here, this is professional SPORTS! Being out of shape affects your performance. Can you imagine an obese sprinter competing at world class levels? Yes, Lindsay Davenport was fat when she was a teen. But she was considered an underperformer at the time. It wasn’t until she lost the weight and started training like an athlete that she started winning big tournaments and hitting #1. So the USTA is trying to get her to fulfill her potential, as un-PC as that may sound. Same as they would do for a kid that doesn’t practice. Or one who smokes.
