Radio personality and retired adult film star Sinnamon Love, along with The High End Agency, is launching the new “Sex Love + Hip-Hop” performance and interview series. Love has tapped hip-hop star Jean Grae to take part in the inaugural event this week (March 12) at MIST Harlem, which will also feature Miss Lola Bastadino of Playboy TV, DJ Bazarro and vocalist Chenzira.
“Jean is one of my best friends,” the former porn actress told HipHopDX. “We’ve known each other for years, we love each other and she’s super dope. I knew that she would be an active participant in my show, and it wouldn’t be like pulling teeth to get her to answer questions. She trusts me enough to ask me questions and ask them respectfully. Anyone who follows her on Twitter knows—she’s one of the smartest, wittiest people. I wanted the first show to feature somebody that I like, respect and will have me laughing on stage.”
Love calls the series an “extension” of her column for TheWellVersed and hopes that it will serve as a musical showcase and a chance for artists to chat it up about sex and relationships.
“I wanted to put together something with a live audience that was a little more intimate; I could do a one on one with the artists,” Sinnamon said. “I like being able to showcase the artists that other people are fans of. I like letting them talk about things that other people don’t usually get them to talk about. It gives them an opportunity to talk about things other than the music.”
Too often, the hip-hop conversation regarding sex is steeped in misogyny and hedonism. But there have been some very frank, mature and real hip-hop songs regarding sexual relations and everything that goes with them.
