Devyn Abdullah of “The Face” has made quite an impression in the first few episodes of the new reality show. Created by legendary supermodel Naomi Campbell, the show center around mentoring and shepherding young modeling aspirants into, and possibly through, the high-priced, cutthroat world.
Devyn, who insists on only going by her first name in professional settings, is a 22-year-old New York native and mother who grew up right next to the old Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. She was discovered at agent 15 by a talent scout who happened upon Devyn and her mother at a New York gas station.
At first she wasn’t interested — until those checks started rolling in. Signed up immediately to a four-year modeling contract, Devyne decided to take her senior year off to enjoy the prom, graduation, parties and other related activities. That’s when she became a mother to her son Bryse, now 2 years old. After juggling multiple odd jobs and raising her son for a few years, Devyn stumbled upon “The Face.” She also recently got signed to another modeling contract.
She made national headlines and ignited a Twitter storm when she told guest interviewer Wendy Williams that she did not consider herself a “black model” because she was a fair-skinned African American who felt she had a more international look. The answer drew the ire of show creator Campbell, a much darker hued woman, who immediately fired off a steam of obscenities in Deyvn’s direction.
Besides that flagrant hiccup notwithstanding, Devyn is back on her regular grind of doing odd jobs and hoping that “The Face” opens doors for her in the modeling and acting genres.
Below are some of Devyn’s hottest photos taken so far.
