By 1998, OutKast figured it all out. They combined the street presence of Southernplaylistic with the lyrical depth of ATLiens when creating Aquemini. But the thing that put Aquemini above all was its approach to experimentation. The crew went beyond the strict confines of rap to create an album that didn’t sound like anything that had ever been released before in hip-hop. It stands alongside Nas’ Illmatic as arguably the greatest rap album in history. As a result, it takes the crown as the greatest Southern rap album of all time.
