Kelly Price is executive producing “Too Fat for Fame.” Let’s take a closer look at the new show.

What brought about your new show, “Too Fat for Fame”?

Literally sitting around one day, realizing that I’ve done reality TV and reminiscing on my experiences. I was thinking about what I liked, what I didn’t like about it and everything that I have been blessed with the opportunity to do, having to make a decision on whether I want to do it again. There’s a lot about reality TV that I don’t like but there is a lot about it that I absolutely love! How would I want to take it and make it into something I absolutely loved and pay it forward.

I didn’t just want the show to be something you’ve see everyplace else but I wanted it to be relatable and I started thinking about my own path in this business. No matter how big of a song it was, no matter who did the song with me, I’ve had #1 records, Grammy nominated records, I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in his business and no matter what I’ve done inside of my career one question that has never gone away is, “Kelly tell me about your struggle with your weight?” Never went away! Literally at my smallest, people would ask me about my struggle with weight, at my biggest, it didn’t matter if I was working with Winona Judd, or Whitney Houston, or Elton John they all wanted to talk about Kelly being a fat girl.

So that is how the idea was born, it wasn’t presented to me. It was my creative brainchild and I decided you can do something with this. There are people out there everyday that are presented with the same challenges and if nothing is ever done there will be people who never get the opportunity because they are considered too fat. I’m grateful. When the idea came to me, I was like, “Oh my God” I got excited because it’s the path that I’ve walked and I still walk it today. So I want to grab some people and tell them let’s walk this path together! You are talented enough to make it and you can endure the scrutiny of the industry so that you can do something with your talents.
