Rihanna is known for singing her heart, being a fashionista and partying her heart out. Recently she donated $100,000 to help those suffering after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Rihanna is in the giving spirit and has decided to help those less fortunate by donating money to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) which provides relief to the areas worst affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
The American Music Awards Icon Award winner, understands that icon also means bring a role model to her fans and Rihanna proved that she can step up by showing her compassion to those most in need in the Philippines.
“Emergencies make headlines, but the recovery continues long after the news cameras leave. Having been a fan and supporter of UNICEF‘s work over the years, I am honored to join them in helping children who have been impacted by Typhoon Haiyan. More than five million kids in the Philippines need our help. UNICEF is there for them today for the long road ahead and so am I.”
Rihanna took to her Twitter, as she repeatedly urged her 33 million followers to help the worthwhile cause.
Rihanna isn’t the first celeb to join UNICEF, the charity has many famous supporters including; ex-footballer David Beckham, pop star Robbie Williams, super model Elle Macpherson and “Sex and the City” actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
