Mandela cuts Winnie out of will

The final will of Nelson Mandela has been read and it leaves nothing for former wife Winnie Mandela, whom he divorced in 1996. The relationship between the two in the beginning was the epic love story of a woman separated from her husband for over 27 years because he was imprisoned. Meanwhile she had to continue the struggle for her people’s freedom in South Africa. But it all fell apart when it was revealed that Winnie was having an affair. Mandela’s estate was estimated to be around $4 million, and at least half went to his widow, Graça Machel, with the rest going to his children, grandchildren, personal staff and the African National Congress.

When Mandela died in 2013, Winnie and he had grown closer and she was at his side when he took his last breath. Mandela was married a total of six times and he does have a large family of children and grandchildren, all of whom want a piece of his estate. Some children Mandela left out of the will because he had already given them $300,000 when he was alive. Being the wise man that he was, he did set up a series of family trusts, which will no doubt be challenged by some relatives.
