Family of teen killed by father for being in girl’s bedroom seeks justice

Johran McCormick, age 17, shot by a dad who caught the teen in daughter’s bedroom

The family of teen Johran McCormick is seeking justice for his murder. The young man was caught in his girlfriend’s bedroom after midnight in a state of undress. The girlfriend stated that she did not know McCormick and the father shot the boy dead when he felt McCormick might be reaching for a weapon. The mother of Johran, Zakia McCormick, is outraged that her son’s killer will not be facing charges. The family is demanding that Houston District Attorney Devon Anderson bring charges of involuntary manslaughter against the father and an accessory to murder charge against the young girl. The family believes that if the girl had not lied to her father about her relationship to Johran, the shooting would not have occurred. The family will hold a press conference and rally today March 20, 2014 at the Bridgestone Lakes subdivision in Houston where the shooting occurred. Community activist Quanell X along with other family and friends will be in attendance to give support to Zakia McCormick in her bid for justice.
