Hip-hop movement 101 has stopped as the sun has come undone. The Grammy Award that was once about hip-hop is now taken away. Who will banish the reality that hip-hop advancement has not borne fruit?
Let us compare the economic changes in the hip-hop wins we see. Where are the African American and Hispanic entrepreneurs that are benefiting digitally? What does the WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter have to say about the lack of investment from these hip-hop generation companies till this day? We ask, do they have the consciousness to pay them at post 30 percent each and every day?
What questions do we ask ourselves about the reality of change in the hip-hop digital movement. Are we saying to ourselves, “are we going public?” or can we not have that too? Each and every day that we think about the digital movement that we participate in, are we benefiting economically? If not, then consider that a sin. Are we not understanding that our lack of participation from a beneficiary position each day marks time for our children, for they have lowered their expectations of participating economically in the digital remaking of the media landscape today.
Is it our destiny that to use the Apple phone and yet when we get to our houses what can be shown gives us the reflection of our commitment to Apple. Should Apple, Facebook and others help HBCUs and urban entrepreneurs? Has the digital rendition of accomplishments or equity and diversity added to the economic progress of our African American or Hispanic people? Is this a question we want to hear or have we begun to even fear requesting something for the ability to be million-dollar consumers.
As we pop bottles and celebrate today, are we part of the economic digital movement in an equity position? We ask those who are making the noise, have you made economic gains from the Twitter and Facebook accounts you use? Do you expect the digital transition that is accompanying the millionaires and billionaires that are being made over and over? Are we progressing as a community as the digital economy grows? Can we make a new and better future for ourselves by requiring better digital empowerment from the brands of the digital economy?
