Why charges have been refiled against Shanesha Taylor

Shanesha Taylor, the homeless Arizona mother of two who made national headlines after being arrested back in March for leaving her children unattended in a car to go on a job interview, has had child abuse charges reinstated on her after neglecting to adhere to court ordered guidelines for her release.

Following her arrest and her story going viral, Taylor was the recipient of more than $114,000 raised on her behalf via a crowd funding site, but the Arizona judge that granted her release pending she follow some very specific guidelines says Taylor has failed to comply and now she must face those charges being re-filed.

According to her attorney Benjamin Taylor (no relation), Shanesha has complied with all of the guidelines given to her with the exception of one: Depositing at least $60,000 of the funds donated to her into a trust fund for her children.

Attorney Taylor says Shanesha has all intentions of depositing into the trust fund, but she’s hoping to lower the amount as she is still currently jobless and dealing with the expenses of raising two children.

“My client still wants to fund the trust fund,” Attorney Taylor told the court “It’s just a matter of being able to still survive — and still live off of these trust funds — and still get a job in the future.”
Taylor has met almost all of the conditions given to her including having paid for child care to prevent an incident such as the one that initially got her in trouble. The judge has ordered Taylor to produce bank statements to determine exactly what she has spent the donation money on thus far.
A new trial date of Dec. 10 has been set. If convicted on the two class-3 felony child abuse charges Taylor could face up to 18 months in prison.
