Rosario Dawson adopts
Top Five actress Rosario Dawson makes a major life change, under the radar. According to Page Six, the 35-year-old actress is rumored to have adopted a 12-year-old girl in October.
Dawson, who was adopted and raised by her stepfather Greg Dawson when she was 1, has been very vocal about her plans for a family in the past, telling Latina magazine in 2008, that one day, she would adopt.
“That idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I’ve been thinking about it more,” the Top Five star told the mag, explaining, “My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they’re getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going, ‘Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could’ve known her.’ . . . Whatever time I have, I want it.”
The OrphanAid Africa advocate who was linked to Slumdog Millionaire director, Danny Boyle, in 2013 and is now single is allegedly raising the teen as a single mom. Due to the heavy responsibility that comes hand in hand with single motherhood, we question whether or not Dawson is going at it alone.
In the last year alone, the United States has experienced an increase in the numbers of children in foster care on the last day of each year with 397,000 in 2012 to 402,000 in 2013, with the dream of being adopted. While there are very little details surrounding Dawson’s adoption, we applaud her example. It is because of people like Dawson, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Madonna and my parents that our nation is able to heal the world by placing these children in happy, healthy and loving homes. – ruu hawkins/@ruubabie
