The annual Essence Street Style Block Party attracted some of the most fashion-forward people of Hollywood and plenty of stylish New Yorkers. The occasion, held on Sept. 13 beneath the Brooklyn Bridge on Sunday, was a part of New York Fashion Week, for which tons of celebrities were already in town to celebrate.

Gabrielle Union appeared at the Dumbo Archway in a Marchesa top with a floor-length fringe at the bottom and tailored black pants to accept the Essence “Closet Crush” award. Union had hit up plenty of parties and events during NYFW, including an affair hosted by Rihanna and another by Marc Jacobs.

Mel B of the Spice Girls stepped out in a white top, high-waist black pants, and silver Christian Louboutin heels. She hosted a fashion show and then slipped into a skintight Alexander McQueen outfit later in the evening for the dinner and award show. She brought her 16-year-old daughter, Phoenix, onto the red carpet with her.

The fashion show segment also showcased other models strutting down the runway and posing for the cameras. Much of the looks consisted of stylish street-wear, while other outfits were African-inspired. There was even a portion of the show where children were able to have some fun walking the runway.

The block party provided tons of entertainment. New Orleans jazz songstress Andra Day treated the crowd to a powerful performance, hair product company Shea Moisture provided beauty makeovers, and kids got their faces painted. Food trucks and vendors were also present.
