The 2nd annual Essence Street Style Block Party attracted fashion-forward celebrities and other stylish attendees on Sept. 13. The Brooklyn gathering, which was a part of New York fashion week, brought in a whopping 6,500 people.

The day-long celebration of style featured music, food trucks, a make-over station by Shea Moisture, local vendors, a face-painting station for children, and a fashion show that was co-hosted by Mel B of the Spice Girls.

Fashion darling and R&B singer Ciara walked the red carpet and attended the dinner and award portion of the evening in a David Koma jumpsuit and a stunning new bob. She won the “Curator of Cool” award; actress Gabrielle Union was honored with the “Closet Crush” award; fashion designer Charles Elliott Harbison won “Designer to Watch”; celebrity stylist Jason Rembert snagged “Style Disrupter”; and fashion blogger Karen Blanchard was honored as the “Chevrolet Street Style Maven.”

“Our Street Style Block Party clearly resonates with women as a manifestation of our desire to own our unique style and beauty and to see this uniqueness celebrated,” said Essence Editor-in-Chief Vanessa K. De Luca. “And, recognizing the inspiring talent of this year’s Street Style Award honorees — Ciara, Gabrielle Union, Charles Harbison and Jason Rembert — powerfully celebrates diversity and self-expression during New York Fashion Week.”
