Ever since Ramsey Orta became famous by filming the death of his friend Eric Garner being killed by NYPD police last year, he has become a target of law enforcement. Last year, he was jailed four times, including for drug possession and gun charges but he claims he was set up by police. Since the time of his arrest, Orta has lived in constant fear for his life while he was incarcerated and apparently he had good cause.

Orta filed a lawsuit last week that claims he and 19 other inmates were fed a meatloaf that contained rat poison in April 2015. Although Orta did not eat the poison he claims that he suffered “severe personal injuries and emotional anguish” over the incident.

A spokesman for the New York City Law Department said that “the allegations will be reviewed.” It has been confirmed by a lab that the meatloaf did contain rat poison.

Orta is currently out of jail and awaiting trial for one of his prior arrests.
