It has been a while since hip-hop has been injected with such a shot of cultural relevance and skill at the same time. Kendrick Lamar represents this. Cam is the reflection of this in the NFL. Cam Newton has been criticized more than most during his career as quarterback of the Panthers. When asked about why he thinks he is being criticized so much, Newton said, “I’m an African American QB. That may scare a lot of people.” It’s this candor and unapologetic stance that likens him to Kendrick and makes him stand out even more.
