She used the Super Bowl as a platform.
Football is a classic, all-American pastime. The Super Bowl, of course, is the pinnacle of the sport, and this year, the focus at halftime was less all-American and more Black American. Many patriotic Americans weren’t feeling that. Giuliani said it was “outrageous that she used it as a platform.” The Proud of the Blues group said that she “pulled a race-baiting stunt at the Superbowl.”
Regardless of whether “Formation” was the right or wrong song to perform in front of an audience of 111.9 million sports fans, there could not have been a more appropriate event used to give a specific message publicity. If Beyoncé’s goal was to bring worldwide awareness to police brutality, the Black Panthers, or even her pride in being a Black woman, then her mission was accomplished.
