It’s been nearly a year since Bobbi Kristina passed away after spending nearly half a year in a coma after being found unconscious in her bathtub. The death was eerily similar to her mother, Whitney Houston’s, death and many people, including police, set their sites on Bobbi’s boyfriend, Nick Gordon, as the main suspect in her mysterious death. Bobbi’s estate even filed a $40 million lawsuit against Gordon, claiming he was abusive, stole money from Bobbi, and that he caused the brain damage that resulted in her death. Now, Gordon’s lawyers are challenging the DA in the case to call Bobbi’s death an accident.
As previously reported, last week, Bobbi Kristina’s autopsy results were finally released to the public and they revealed that she died from a multitude of causes, including lobar pneumonia due to “Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, delayed effects” and “Immersion of face in water complicating mixed drug intoxication.”
A toxicology report also found marijuana, alcohol (ethanol), benzoylecgonine (a cocaine metabolite), benzodiazepines (used for sedation or to treat anxiety) and morphine in Bobbi’s system.
Perhaps the most noteworthy part of the report is the manner in which Bobbi died. Although she clearly didn’t die of natural causes, it was unclear if she died accidentally or via intentional forces.
Although Bobbi’s death is still under investigation, new media reports claim Gordon’s lawyers recently released a statement claiming their client had nothing to do with Bobbi’s death. In fact, they say he tried to save her life.
“The truth is that Nick tried to save Bobbi Kristina’s life,” read the statement. “The truth is that Nick cooperated with law enforcement since day one. The truth is that no one loved Bobbi Kristina more than Nick and no one has suffered more as a result of her death than [sic] Nick.”
Gordon’s lawyers go on to talk about how Gordon has suffered tremendous emotional trauma since the loss of his girlfriend.
“Nick Gordon’s life has been tumultuous since January of 2015 when he lost the love of his life,” the statement read. “On top of being prohibited from visiting Bobbi Kristina at the hospital for the last six months of her life, Nick has been publicly humiliated for more than a year..”
His lawyers then requested that the DA put an end to the rumors that Gordon is a murderer and finally call Bobbi’s death a “tragic accident.”
“Throughout that time, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office has tried to make Nick a murderer despite having clear and convincing evidence that Bobbi Kristina’s death was nothing more than a tragic accident, evidence that the District Attorney’s office fought to seal and conceal from the public rather than allowing her fans to know the truth,” the statement read.
But that isn’t all Gordon’s lawyers had to say. Read the rest of their statement, after the cut.
