A young teen in Brooklyn, New York, was the target of a vicious beating that occurred last Friday. According to police, Ta’Jae Warner, age 17, was walking her 11-year-old brother to school when she was confronted by a group of teens. The group, which included one boy, made a remark to her, then began to beat her outside a housing complex. One of the attackers, according to witnesses, was a boy who hit her so hard, the blow lifted her off the ground. As she lay on the ground the group began to kick and punch her until she lost consciousness.

She was transported to Coney Island Hospital and placed into a medically induced coma because of her injuries. On Saturday she was transferred to NYU Medical Center and declared brain dead on Sunday. The family of the young teen kept her on life support so out of state relatives could see her before she died. On Tuesday, life support was discontinued and she was pronounced dead. The family has donated her organs in the hope of helping others.

Police have only made one arrest in the attack, Sarina Agard-Forde, 18. The teen was initially charged with assault but now since the victim has died that charge will more than likely be upgraded. Ta’Jae’s mother, Neice Warner, is struggling to deal with the death of her precious daughter. She stated to media, “I don’t know what happened. She had no enemies. She never really went outside. The detectives, they got surveillance camera and stuff. That’s what they told me.”

Residents in the community are outraged that only one arrest has been made so far. Police and community leaders are urging any witnesses of the attack to come forward. It is hoped that the Agard-Ford will reveal who else participated in the attack.
