It is no secret that Broccoli City Festival is a hot ticket for DC locals, as it is music festival season. The event is completely sold out and at this point the only way to get a golden ticket you have to volunteer or win them them. “BCF is committed to using its platform to engage and activate over 20,000 urban millennials from around the world on healthy eating and environmental sustainability,” says co-founder Brandon McEachern. The organization stands firmly on this platform with their Power of One campaign.
The campaign keeps the spirit of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for oneself and the community we live in by inspiring volunteerism through various activities including gardening, cooking demonstrations, and community beautification projects. This movement was built to “… engage millennials to help build their communities by being active participants through community service actions.”
Past service projects include feeding the homeless and tree planting with Casey Trees.
Jermon Williams, SVP of Communications, spoke with rolling out about the work the BCF staff and volunteers have done within DC’s Ward 7 and 8, growing thriving gardens and teaching the residents to harvest and make meals and how to be self-reliant.
In recognition of Earth Day, volunteers gathered to participate in a rainy day trash clean-up in Anacostia Park. Through volunteerism, BCF is able to offer attendees opportunities to attend the festival for free. By giving back, they can earn a ticket to see Future, Jhene Aiko, the Internet, and BJ the Chicago Kid. Williams suggests signing up to receive BC festival updates in order to volunteer.
