Ford Motor Company teamed up with several of Detroit’s home town champs to pass out more than 2,000 turkeys, fresh vegetables, canned goods and boxed foods for families in need this Thanksgiving season at Tarence Wheeler’s annual All Star Giveback. The event, which took place on November 22, 2016, was held at the River Rouge High School, in River Rouge, Michigan. The all-star event boasted several celebrities who volunteered their time to the worthy cause. Some of the celebrities included Multi-Platinum and Grammy Nominee Rapper Big Sean, female rapper Dej Loaf, former NBA Player Derrick Coleman, Hall of Fame Boxer Tommy “Hitman” Hearns and former Mayor of Detroit Dave Bing. 2016 marks the fourth year that Big Sean and the Sean Foundation have supported the giveaway.
The All-Star Giveback and Tarence Wheeler Productions celebrated its 18th year of giving back. Every year, families line up early to get a box of food and a turkey just in time for Thanksgiving. Celebrities could be seen passing out food, conversing, snapping pics and having a good time with the Detroit community. But the event is not about the “all-stars” says Wheeler, president and CEO of the All-Star Giveback LLC. “It’s called the All Star Giveback because every person is an all-star, from the janitor to the CEO. We start at 11am, but typically people start lining up around 7:30am, 8:00am in the morning because the need is so great.”
Also this year, Ford Motor Company joined the giveaway by providing reusable grocery totes and delivering food to community outreach programs like FOCUS: HOPE, in the Edge Sport.
