“Rickey Smiley For Real” returns for season three and to roll out the new episodes it was only fitting for TV One, Bobbcat Films and the cast to be joined by Smiley and his celebrity friends at The Gathering Spot to watch episode one together. The Blue Martel margarita was the most requested cocktail of the evening. You can’t have a proper celebration without good friends, great food and libations.
The first episode was a knee-slapping riot as Da Brat came to visit Smiley and his den keeper/”Dish Nation” co-host Gary with da Tea. I don’t think either of them was ready for Da Brat’s extended stay with her three babies — the most adorable little Yorkshire terriers you could ever lay your eyes on. Da Brat was very impressed by Smiley’s new crib and the fact he had the proper new bowls for her babies to enjoy their meal. Hopefully, you tuned it to see how well this went over with Smiley.
The best part of the episode was the return of Smiley’s children and seeing them interact, especially his mini me, Brandon. (Who was also open casket clean for the screening as well). Brandon and Rickey had some serious relationship mending to do but it looks like they are back on track.
I imagine when you have a child and they are so much like you in your younger inexperienced self, you probably see so much of you in them that you merely don’t want them making the same mistakes. But boys will be boys, especially when they are developing into young men. Thank goodness Smiley is the type of dad that does not give up on his kids or any of the youth where he can personally make an impact.
I’m sure all would agree the most emotional part of the show is Smiley’s relationship with his nephew/son Craig. Smiley is not afraid to administer tough love. Craig found himself on the other end of that tough love lesson, but to see how it made him grow as a man, get a job, and learn to appreciate the lesson Smiley was teaching seems like it made everything worthwhile.
