The city of Las Vegas has been shocked as a mass shooter opened fire on a concert crowd overnight. Police are saying that the shooter, identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
His target was the people attending the last day of the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a four-day country music event. Video from the event shows a terrified crowd running for their lives as sustained gunfire rained down on them. At first, many thought the sound of gunfire was special effects from the ending of the show until they saw people dropping. At this time, police are reporting that at least 50 people have been reported dead and at least 200 have been injured. The number of dead and injured is expected to rise, according to the Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo.
The shooter was killed by police at the scene, Authorities are reporting that multiple weapons were found in the hotel room at the Mandalay Bay. Police have also arrested a woman who was with the shooter, identified as Marilou Danley.
Authorities are stating this is the largest mass shooting in U.S. history, surpassing the death toll of the Pulse Nightclub shooting that occurred in Orlando, Florida. At the age of 64, Paddock is the oldest mass shooter in U.S. history.
