We have all seen colorful wigs and hair extensions, whether on our favorite celebrity or a random woman in the mall. Meet the woman who is changing not only the way women wear their hair but also the color. Cynthia Lumzy is the queen of coloring and she has proven that repeatedly. Some of her best wigs have been seen on celebrities and influencers. As she embarks on her new branding journey, she is traveling around the country teaching other hairstylists how to better their craft and extend their reach as an entrepreneur.

Read her interview below.

For all who may not know, can you tell our readers a little about yourself?
My name is Cynthia Lumzy. I am one of the industry’s leading hair and wig designers as well as a social media influencer. I have been a stylist for over 16+ years. I feel I have reinvented the art of wig design. I pride myself on intertwining luxurious colors in combination with unstructured voluminous cliffs and undeniable, cutting-edge styles. I enjoy creating massive deep set curl formation during my wig styling process, which not only creates a signature look but has set me apart and birthed my own signature style in this competitive industry. My philosophy is designing and creating a look for each client based on personal style and focusing on their inner diva, which I enjoy unleashing.

You are by far one of the best coloring experts I have seen. How did you get your start?
I’ve always had an undeniable love affair with hair. Four years into my career, I did a year-long training program with a Redken master stylist in St. Louis, Missouri, which laid a portion of the foundation for what I have become in the present day.

I notice that you teach classes. What are some memorable moments you have shared with past students?
In my classes, we laugh, we cry, we share our weaknesses, strengths, and vulnerabilities. I’m a firm believer in the power of sharing. I share my personal struggles and failures, not just my accomplishments. It’s important because it shows artists that I am just like them. It’s about perseverance and how you choose to bounce back. Regaining control over your destiny is important for everyone to learn. It’s extremely important to allow those moments to have a part in my classes so that everyone can see we all come from a common thread.

Knowing that you are always expanding your brand, what upcoming projects or classes can we look forward to?
You are absolutely right and I am taking on the B.E.C. effect. I am Building, Expanding and Collaborating. I am constantly at work building my brand, creating awareness, brand continuity, and visibility. I’m focusing on a plethora of business ventures and collaborations. Instructing is an important part of who I am and because of that, I will continue to share my knowledge and educating stylists about this craft that I love so much.

Your wigs are one-of-a-kind. Who are some notable celebrities you have worked with?
Tanisha Thomas, Mariah Lynn (“LHHNY”), King Amiyah Scott, Ash Costelloo, Trina, Willam (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Cupcakke, Miracle Watts, Jessica Dupart, Spice Offical, Big Freedia, Tokyo Vanity, Supa Cent, and a plethora of socialites and Youtube personalities.

The hair industry is very competitive. What advice would you give to a newly emerging hairstylist?
The best advice that I can give to any stylist is to have patience, stay true to yourself and your craft. I would also tell them to never lose sight of why they became a hairstylist.
