What should have been a fun birthday celebration for Lyric McHenry, 26, instead has ended in tragedy as the NYPD has discovered her body. McHenry was a talented young woman who at the age of 15 found herself working on the Obama Presidential Election Campaign. She excelled in academics, was named a Ron Brown Scholar and attended Stanford University.
Most recently, she appeared on the reality show “EJNYC,” which starred EJ Johnson, son of NBA legend Magic Johnson. She went on to produce shows for Complex TV as well as work as a freelance writer. According to the New York Daily News, McHenry had been barhopping with friends at some of the trendiest bars in Manhattan, and was posting images on her Instagram account throughout the night.
Pictures showed her with various people at the Frederick Hotel, the SoHo Grand and Dream Downtown in lower Manhattan. A final clip has her blowing a kiss to the camera at approximately 1 AM, four hours later police found her sprawled out on the street, wearing a pink top, panties and with a small Ziploc bag of cocaine.
Police stated that her knees were badly scraped and there was a possibility that she was dumped at the location. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died in what police are stating is a suspected overdose. Sadly, McHenry was 20 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Her birthday was on Aug. 6, 2018.
