The 911 audio was released today, April 30, 2019, of Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger’s call after shooting Botham Jean. An unarmed Jean was inside his own apartment when Guyger entered the unit and shot him. Guyger maintains that she thought it was her unit and shot Jean thinking he was an intruder.
In the audio, a distraught Guyger seems very concerned about her employment. She is heard to say to the 911 operator, “I’m gonna lose my job.”
In the call the following exchange is heard:
GUYGER: I’m an off duty officer. I thought I was in my apartment. I shot a guy thinking he was… thinking it was my apartment.
Operator: You shot someone?
GUYGER: Yes. I thought it was my apartment. I’m f—-d. Oh my God. I’m sorry.
Operator: Where are you at right now?
GUYGER: I’m in. What do you mean? I’m inside the apartment with him. (To Jean): Hey, come on, man.
Operator: What’s your name?
GUYGER: My name is Amber Guyger.
Operator: OK, we have help on the way.
GUYGER: I know but I’m gonna lose my job. I thought it was my apartment. (To Jean): Hey, man. F—.
Operator: Stay with me, OK.
GUYGER: I am. I am. I know I need a supervisor. (To Jean): Hey bud, hey bud, hey bud. Come on. Oh f—. I thought it was my apartment!
