The news that Derion Vence, the man who reported 4-year-old Maleah Davis missing on Saturday, May 4, has been arrested has shocked many and surprised few. After police stated that his story had “blanks” those blanks are now being filled in disturbing detail. Including an unreported feeling that Vence had been molesting Maleah and that her mother caught Vence watching gay porn.
Law enforcement in the case has released an image that shows Vence carrying a laundry basket with a black garbage bag. Police now say that a laundry basket and a gas can were found in the trunk of Vence’s vehicle that he reported stolen. In addition, Brittany Bowens, Maleah’s mother, has come forward with more information about the Vence’s actions in the period before her daughter’s death. She asked community activist Bro. Quanell X to make a statement on her behalf. Quanell X revealed that before Maleah disappeared, Bowen’s and Vence had a heated argument. He stated to ABC News, “[Bowens] confronted him about being gay. He was hurt, he was angry, he was upset. She told him she was giving back his ring and that she was not going to marry him. I believe that caused him to snap in anger.”
Quanell further stated, “There were times where [Vence] would say [Maleah] was at daycare, but he would bring her back, not drop her off at daycare, but bring her back home with him. There is a reason to believe, based on what I know now, there are issues of him possibly molesting young Maleah.”
On the day of the alleged kidnapping, Vence told Bowen he had been cleaning up the apartment with bleach. “She didn’t understand why he would be cleaning up the apartment. But he went and bought an extra bottle of Clorox and came back,” Quanell said.
Vence is now in jail on a charge of tampering with evidence, namely a corpse, according to police. However, they have not recovered Maleah’s body and will not state if they believe Vence murdered his stepdaughter.
