Former NFL quarterback Anthony Wright is hospitalized after reportedly being shot multiple times by his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend in a small town north of Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to a now-deleted statement released on Twitter by the Concord (North Carolina) Police Department and obtained by USA Today, Wright had gotten into a verbal altercation with the ex-boyfriend, William Moses Hooker Jr., after he dropped the daughter off. Soon after, shots were fired and Wright was struck several times.

Police have not revealed exactly how many times Wright was struck and where. According to The Daily Mail, Hooker allegedly shot Wright in the presence of the little girl.

Wright was rushed to emergency where he is now listed in stable condition. Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend Hooker who is wanted on the charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Wright, a South Carolina native who starred for the South Carolina Gamecocks, last played in the NFL in 2007. He started 19 games for the Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens and played for four teams overall, USA Today reported.
