Your favorite “Girlfriends” are back. Tracee Ellis Ross rallied her gang back together for a very special surprise. The cast of the popular 2000s TV show “Girlfriends” was brought together by Ross for a new episode of ABC’s “Black-ish.”
On Thursday, Sept. 13, Ross, who played successful lawyer Joan Clayton on the show, took to Instagram to show her co-stars Golden Brooks ( Maya), Persia White (Lynn), and Jill Marie Jones (Toni) on set with her.
She captioned the video where you can see each woman showing off their TV characters personality, “GIRLFRIENDS X BLACKIS~ @therealgolden47 @misspersiawhite
@itsmejillmarie @blackishabc My giiiiirlfriends are guest starring on #blackish Tuesday, october 8!”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ross shared details about the reunion. “The timing was perfect to be able to bring ‘Girlfriends’ to a whole new audience. We haven’t all been together on camera since 2006,” Ross told EW. “’Girlfriends’ ran for eight years and was important to so many people. Being able to merge the worlds of ‘Black-ish’ and ‘Girlfriends’ was surreal for me — and so much fun. These are women I grew up with and love deeply, and it was easy to tap back into the magic of our chemistry and how much we love each other. It was giggles on top of giggles on top of giggles.”
The episode titled “Feminisn’t” shows Ross’ character Bow trying to teach her daughter Diane (Marsai Martin) and mother-in-law Ruby (Jenifer Lewis) about feminism. Later in the episode, Bow enlists the help of her girlfriends who weigh in on the matter.
The episode airs Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019.
