What do you hope to accomplish with Sista Circle in the future?
I want us to continue pushing the candid conversations about authenticity, safe spaces and retention in the workplace. Most importantly, I want our members to continue to be an active agent in our sisterhood.
You call what you do “solidarity work.” What does that term mean to you?
God, family and community — in that order. I make every decision with these factors in mind. I am nothing without my community, and it is my responsibility to support my people in every way possible. Everyone has a freedom fight inside of them. How your freedom fight is shaped and performed can be different from mine. But imagine a world when every Black person in every industry is actively engaging in a freedom fight to make the world more equitable.
I do not work in a recruiting or a formalized diversity and inclusion capacity, but I am a Black woman and witness and experience the disparities in my industry. It is my responsibility to find ways to make progress, not only for me but [also] all of the people before me and all of the people [who] will come after me.
