The former college basketball player is new to the music industry, so he welcomes the comparisons to fellow blue-eyed soul crooners like Robin Thicke.
“You know, everybody’s been telling me that. They’re like, ‘You’re Robin, you’re this. … I’m not going to lie — I love it,” he said. “It’s really humbling to hear that because those are people of huge caliber, so it’s like to even be recognized in that category is truly an honor.”
The comparisons are flattering, yet Peckat remains focused on his future, confident about creating his own impact. “I don’t like to try to claim that I’m like anybody because I don’t really like to compare myself to anybody because I honestly don’t see competition,” he shared.
“I see these people as other souls that have worked hard and were able to find a way to put themselves out there and their music out there. I feel like I’m going to be the best version of myself, and they’re going to be the best versions of themselves. I don’t really want to be the next anything. I would rather think that I’m the first Drew Peckat.”
