Marcel Benson, the founder of Benson Watch Company, designs beautiful timepieces meant to inspire people to spend their time doing what they love. With a background in financial management and consulting, Benson built his company from an idea to a notable enterprise and works to guide many other small businesses to success. He was selected as the 2016 BE Modern Man by Black Enterprise. He is a graduate of the 2017 Building A High Performing Minority Business program at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Additionally, he was one of 10 businesses in the country selected to attend the 2018 Workshop at Macy’s, a program for high potential emerging fashion brands. Benson secured a retail partnership with MGM International Resorts and Macys.com to sell his creations. We spoke with Benson about his entrepreneurial journey.
What inspired you to create a watch line?
My passion for timepieces and the lack of representation within this area of design.

Elegance: All of our pieces are elegant in their aesthetic.
Excellence: We provide a sound and quality product.
Minimalism: Understated, we aim for simplicity.
Integrity: Honesty in our process and transparency with our customers.
Describe the three design details you focus on when creating your watches.
My three F’s are what I focus on when creating a product, fit, function and feel. Fit: How does the watch or accessory look on the wrist? Function: How versatile can this piece be; can it be dressed up and down? Feel: What emotions does this piece evoke? The coloring plays an integral role in the last piece.
