Prior to “Good Girls,” Jewett appeared in “Grey’s Anatomy,” Hidden Figures and Black Panther. Her role as a young Nakia — the younger version of Lupita Nyong’o’s character — seems to be a blessing from the ancestors since she was born in Africa.
“I was born in a small village called Gambella, and that’s more near the border of Sudan in Ethiopia,” she explained. “I actually had a map and I looked at where Wakanda was placed. I was born very close to where they imagined Wakanda.”
Besides her penchant for acting, Jewett, who was adopted at the age of 4, plans to share her passion for math and science globally.
“I really want to put myself into education for girls. All around the world, there are places where girls don’t get an amazing education like I do,” she said. “They say education changes a girl. A girl can change her family, and her family can change the entire village or community or city or anyplace.”
With a resume that already reflects work alongside several legends, the budding actress is confident with her place among the stars.
“There is a trajectory that I’m on, and I’m so grateful for all the roles that I have been able to portray because they have gotten me closer to the next step on that trajectory,” she said. “I don’t know where I’m going to be in a few years, but I have an idea of where I want to be.”
Lidya Jewett will appear in the Netflix dance film “Feel the Beat” due out this summer.
NBC’s “Good Girls” airs on Sundays, 10 p.m. EST.
