Tell us about your album.
SM: What’s the 1174? (Side 1) is the soundtrack to one of the craziest nights of our lives. Each song represents a different saga of the night from “Stupid Crazy,” where you let it all go for the sake of fun and laughter. Every song on the album is about having fun, which represents us as people and artists. We want to experience all things fun in life and make it sound dope while doing so.
Describe your trip to New York City and your collaboration process.
MM: So, when we got to New York, as soon as we landed, Tayla introduced us to her team, and we just talked for about four hours. It was like a therapy session. It gave us all the opportunity to get to know each other and how we feel and what our life was like. The next two days we wrote about 14 songs.
TP: It’s really hard to be an artist in a room full of people, but my job is to let the artist know that there isn’t anything you can do that a million other people can’t relate to. It can be hard, though, to be in a new place and experiencing new things, but I wanted them to feel safe with me, and know how much courage there is to be free in your thoughts and feelings. And it turned out great.
