Raphael Warnock: Ready for leadership

Today, as part of an extended coalition housed in the Ebenezer Community Resource Center, Warnock plays a significant role in providing access to a diversity of resources for metro Atlantans. Working with groups addressing the AIDS epidemic, voter rights, student debt and homelessness, he has gained a national reputation. He also has stood with those fighting the criminal justice system and families who have tragically lost loved ones. Running for U.S. Senate provides him with a larger platform to “fight for ordinary people — the people I see in my community every day, the folks I counsel in my church, the community members I speak with as I travel around the state.”

A review of Warnock’s path shows how clearly he aligns with King’s vision. He has built a loyal congregation because he is not afraid to tackle the hard issues from the pulpit. On the campaign trail, he talks about being in love with humanity. Not interested in playing political games, he is aware of the real human cost to these types of actions. “People are unemployed, some have lost livelihoods, others have lost loved ones, and our senators are trying to score political points instead of delivering relief to our communities,” he declares.

This is the connection fueled by an urgency that many believe is so needed to change the current political atmosphere and begin to rebuild the country. On this day, those chanting “Warnock!” are looking for someone whose roots run deep and steady. He reflects their hard work and sacrifice, and they are ready for a change.
