Netflix filmmaker Renae Bluitt shares why she shows up to fight for all women

Why is it important for more experienced Black women to reach back and help younger women of color?

Representation is powerful. When a young woman sees a more experienced woman in a role she desires to be in, that visibility tells her it’s possible. I can’t even imagine how much higher my self-esteem would have been growing up if I saw more reflections of my melanated skin in the media or in positions of ownership and power. This is one of the reasons why I’m so committed to telling our stories through projects like She Did That. Also, passing down the tough lessons I’ve learned throughout my journey is key. A younger sister shouldn’t have to repeat all the mistakes I’ve made along the way.

As a successful woman in business, what is your greatest or proudest achievement?

My proudest achievement is creating my own lane, which brings me immeasurable amounts of joy while celebrating and uplifting the incredible women in my community.
