Master P knows the importance of education and announced on Instagram that he wants to own a Historically Black College and University. The No Limit boss and former NBA player was moved last week when the league dedicated All-Star Weekend to HBCUs and donated $3 million to the schools as well as to communities of color. P however was shocked to learn that most were founded by white people.
“So, y’all know I always wanted to own an NBA team, but now I want to own an HBCU. It’s so important that we educate the culture. This message is all about educating our people,” he said during the video. “Shoutout to LeBron and the NBA for having the All-Star Game there, but when I googled who owns HBCUs and who are the founders, I was shocked. And I just want you guys to do the same thing.”
Master P also pointed out that Black colleges prepare you to have a tough skin for the real world and how Black women have taken to education in huge numbers. “Did you know that HBCUs graduate more females than any other colleges in the world which is incredible?” he asked. “It makes you tougher, harder, stronger when you graduate from an HBCU.”
During the video, P also revealed that he contemplated attending Southern University, but the school didn’t have the same resources as other schools, and that fact altered his decision. Despite his decision to University of Houston on an athletic scholarship, he stands by his decision. “It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, so many beautiful people that look like us … getting an education.”
