If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything about your latest work?
The only thing I’d change about Words Are Wealth is the year I released it. The book should’ve been published over 10 years ago. Nevertheless, I’m humbled to know there’s a little piece of me inside of everyone’s home or office.
Words Are Wealth by Maria A. Lloyd
What was the hardest part of completing this project?
The hardest part of completing Words Are Wealth is managing the promotion of the book while running my business. It never occurred to me that a book is essentially a business, so given that context, I’ve had to adjust the way I run my copywriting firm to accommodate the way I operate [the] business related to the book. It’s an interesting experience.
What is the gift of reading and why does it open up a whole new world?
As an African American woman, the gift of reading is quite literally an act of radical liberation and empowerment because my ancestors were not legally allowed to read and write. Harriet Tubman, Lucy Parsons, Ida B. Wells, and so many others used the skill of reading and writing to evoke change that liberated the masses. When I think about the courage, the mental fortitude, and the audacity of their efforts, it gives me goose bumps! In honoring their legacy and my continued evolution as a human being, I have an obligation to keep reading and writing.
