As Kerr took to the stage to receive her award, she began her acceptance speech with this, “Today is about connecting with community. Whatever your faith is, we appreciate it. Whatever your purpose is, we want you to walk in it. And it’s all about community,” said Kerr.
She ended her speech on a high note as she concluded with, “My purpose is to create a safe space that acknowledges where we come from, the truth, the rich soil and heritage that is still our homeland. I’m totally honored and humbled by this moment, but more importantly by your presence. We’re going to create so many more moments like this at Hallmark Mahogany as we’re on this amazing journey together. And with that, there’s space for you all.”
The event was hosted by actress, entrepreneur and philanthropist Monique Coleman, and live entertainment was provided by gospel artist Mali Music and also included an Afrobeats dance performance.
