What do you enjoy most about being a father?
Being able to raise a child to be a strong individual who will one day raise her children to be just as strong. Seeing the impact of my life’s principles play out in a positive way with my own child. Knowing that I’m doing something right in the world is the greatest reward.
What was one of the hardest moments you had being a father and why was it hard?
My visits to see my child is temporary due to me living across the country. To have to say, “see you later” and leave is emotional and devastating but what keeps me grounded is knowing I’m sacrificing something so she won’t have to.
Which fatherhood experiences have taught you the most about yourself?
I’ve been an emotionless person. I didn’t grow up with hugs or hearing affirmations like “I love you” but as a father, I realized that I’m not emotionless and everything that I didn’t receive growing up is exactly what I give to my child.
Name one life lesson that no one taught you but should have.
The playbook on how to give love and how to be patient and gentle. I didn’t know that I could love someone or be loved until I met my daughter, and it has been a joy to know that I am not broken.
