What are some professional tips or secrets for learning your lines?
TM: For me it is repetition, my daughters help me run lines. But [don’t] be afraid to connect with the people that you work with, it actually makes the chemistry better, and, for me, once I know the story, I can put everything together.
DM: Just putting everything in the context of real conversation.
How have you built such a sustainable brand in this industry?
TM: We push each other in each other’s lanes and we’re not jealous of each other and that’s one of the things that have helped us achieve the things that we’ve achieved.
DM: You know, trying to help her strive for what she wants, and not wanting to steal each other’s light.
What effect do you think your brand has had on the Black community?
DM: We always say we’re not a perfect couple, we’re a work in progress, but we just figured out how to work in harmony and so just [being] a positive example.
TM: Just being consistent and transparent to let people know we have issues too.
Tell us about your new album, Overcomer.
TM: Overcomer is a new project, you can download and stream it [everywhere], but it’s talking about me going through menopause, having double knee surgery, [and] me actually doing the album during the pandemic and so I’m talking about overcoming and I’m walking through this thing to be, hopefully, an encouragement to others. [And] just to be uplifting, to direct people back to the Lord.
