“I would like to be a help as well,” Miller said. “Hopefully, [Dickens] opens up and the community opens up letting it be a peace center so that I could be of help.”
Brooks’ 9-year-old daughter Blessing said the center would be a place for community members to have somewhere to sleep, eat and bathe overnight. Jones-Chukura added the center could also host social justice rallies. Brooks told his three daughters he wanted each of them to have an office in his building one day focused on improving the community, Jones-Chukura said.
The family also wants Rolfe to be arrested. Miller said while winning a civil case against Rolfe would be beneficial as a single mother, having the officer that shot and killed her husband behind bars would give her more immediate peace. Rolfe is currently working at another law agency, according to Jones-Chukura.
