On July 6, Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, was sentenced by a federal judge to one year of home detention, three years of probation, and a $55,000 fine for failing to register as a sex offender in California.
Petty was convicted of rape in 1995 in New York City [and] of attempted first-degree rape a year prior when he and the victim were 16 years old. He was then sentenced to between 18 and 54 months in state prison and was released in January 1999.
Petty moved to Los Angeles in July 2019 before he and Nicki Minaj got married months later, but he failed to register as a sex offender, which is required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
In March 202o, Petty turned himself in to federal custody after failing to register as a sex offender in California.
According to “TMZ,” prosecutors argued home detention wouldn’t be punishment enough, since the couple lives in a mansion in Calabasas.
