Lead actor Caleb Dixon was the life of the party at Dolapo’s Screening Room’s hosting of Amazon Prime’s new original film The Underdoggs at the Blue Lagoon Bistro in Atlanta on Jan. 26. Dixon was celebrated by friends, family, cast members, teachers on the set and his teachers from P.B. Ritch Middle School in Dallas, Georgia.
“Thank you for coming out to support me and watching this film with me tonight,” Dixon said, standing on the stage. “I have to warn you that there is a lot of profanity. Please just enjoy the film.” Dixon was joined on stage by cast member Ethan Toney, cast as #53 Chubb Rokk, one of the football players.
Dixon is no stranger to the big screen. In 2021 he was cast in rapper-film producer Lil Boosie’s film, My Struggle, as Tootie Raw, the best friend of Boosie’s son MJ. It was at that movie’s premiere that Dixon was approached by a talent manager from CMG Talent, based out of Los Angeles. The young actor was signed to CMG. In 2022 he was cast as Dwayne, one of the four lead actors in The Underdoggs.
In the film, Dwayne is one of the football players who is tired of being the broke kid on the block. He tries to hide it by wearing knock-off brand gear, passing it off as authentic. What’s ridiculous is Dwayne does what most people do when they are unhappy: they project their faults on other people. Dwayne keeps calling out coach Jaycen (Snoop Dogg) for wearing knock-off sneakers and brand-name gear. But Dwayne isn’t a good liar and is soon exposed on one of his rides home by Jaycen.
Rolling out caught up with Dixon at the premiere and asked the teen actor about the best scene he filmed.
“It was definitely the scene where Snoop and I were in the car together and I couldn’t even believe it was real,” the young actor said. “I just kept thinking it’s only him, and I’m one-on-one [with him], so I have to do a great job. I went into character since I could totally relate to Dwayne’s character at certain low times in my own life.”
The Underdoggs is streaming now on Amazon Prime. It became the No. 1 movie on Amazon Prime over the opening weekend. The film was produced by Kenya Barris, Mychelle Deschamps, Jonathan Glickman, Brian M. O’Neil, Snoop Dogg, Constance Swartz Morini and executive producer Jeremiah Samuels.
