Snoop Dogg’s resurrection of the Death Row brand will soon to expand into the world of movies as he joins Lionsgate in producing the upcoming and heavily anticipated crime thriller, 1992.

Centered around the infamous 1992 L.A. riots in the wake of the Rodney King trial, the film stars Tyrese Gibson as Mercer, a man who is trying to reestablish a relationship with his son and rebuild his life. In one of his very last film performances, the late Ray Liotta plays Lowell who also has a strained relationship with his son. As fate would have it, the world of both pairs collide as Lowell and son prepare to to rob Mercer’s business for catalytic converters to sell on the black market.

Directed by Ariel Vromen (Criminal, The Iceman), who also co-wrote the riveting film along with Sascha Penn, the stark and compelling story also stars Christopher Ammanuel, Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Scott Eastwood, Tosin Morohunfola, and Oleg Taktarov.

1992 lands in theaters on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30.
