There are some who consider their mild (OK, severe) obsession with Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” to be somewhat of a guilty pleasure. Never wanting to fully admit their fascination with the show, the viewing of it is often validated with half-hearted explanations like “oh, it’s just what I do when I don’t feel like thinking” or “I only watch it so I can know what everyone is talking about in the office.”
But the more these types of excuses are doled out, the more they fail to pass a basic smell test.
After five seasons of history-making ratings for the Bravo network, it’s time for people to come to terms with a fact that can no longer people denied: The Atlanta installment of the ”Housewives” franchise is not just a passing fancy, but instead a viable institution in today’s popular culture. How else can you explain ratings that surpass all of the other popular “Housewives” incarnations?
Our point is that you can’t. And now as we get set to close the chapter on a successful season five, it’s time to take a closer look at the women who comprise this pop culture juggernaut. Both individually and collectively, this is really an impressive collection of women — drama aside, of course. And their accomplishments as entrepreneurs, entertainers and fashionistas should not go unnoticed.
