Atlanta is known for talented up-and-coming artists. Once they discover their lane within the industry, they shine. Many times, these artists and even DJs have paid their dues long before the world becomes aware. DJ Infamous and Future are prime examples. Along with super producer Mike Will, they are creating hits, or as Future would say — “magic.” During a recent interview, DJ Infamous explained how they have paved their way to success in music. –tawni fears
When you refer to you all as a “new movement” what exactly do you mean by that?
We all have our separate success, but together we are a fresh and needed answer for the industry. I have my first single, “Itchin,” featuring Future, and Future has his debut album ‘Pluto,” out now. Mike is producing hit after hit. We’re all just trying to make a real impact.
How long have you been in the industry?
I have been at Atlanta’s V – 103 for seven years, and DJ’ing for seven years too. I have learned a lot and met so many people that have put me right where I am now. I know I didn’t get here all on my own.
How did the friendship and business relationship with Future come about?
It’s because of my show, “The Takeover With Lil Bankhead And DJ Infamous,” that I met Future. We actually broke his first record, “Watch This.” After that, he would bring us all of his new singles first. I saw the talent and potential at that point.
What do you all add to Atlanta music?
Atlanta is known for its own sound. We respect that, but put a spin on it at the same time. I’ve been in and around music for so long that I get what works. I also get what’s missing.
What makes you all work so well together?
Future understands what we’re trying to do. It makes a world of difference when you’re on the same page with someone, especially with business. It makes it extra special that we have a crazy record together right now. Mike Will is a key component as a producer, and another example of someone who has built their own buzz. We have our own thing separately, but now it’s coming together as one.
