D’Angleo Shows Off Body in GQ
Gone are the days of women whining about the seemingly sudden weight gain and decline of singer D’Angelo. Back are the seductive “How Does It Feel” days for the crooner. D’ Angelo is the latest cover story for an issue of GQ magazine, and in it, is discussing his battle with addiction, his infamous body and his return to music after 12 years on hiatus. In addition to those topics, D’Angelo touches on the ‘”evils” of the music business with GQ contributor Amy Wallace and confesses that he’s felt “other forces” tug at him in the past. “There’s forces that are going on that I don’t think a lot of motherf—— that make music today are aware of,” he says. “It’s deep. I’ve felt it. I’ve felt other forces pulling at me.” Taking the writer’s hand he adds, “This is a very powerful medium that we are involved in. I learned at an early age that what we were doing in the choir was just as important as the preacher. It was a ministry in itself. We could stir the pot, you know? ”
In addition to discussing the music biz that he almost left behind following a failed rehab stint and a near fatal car crash, the singer happily showed off his considerable weight loss. After his infamous “How Does It Feel” video was released in 2000, showing his sexy, shirtless, nearly perfect body, the mag reports that D’Angelo retreated from his sex symbol image. In the article, Questlove of the Roots says D’Angelo told him point blank, “ ‘Yo, man, I cannot wait until this f—— tour is over. I’m going to go in the woods, drink some hooch, grow a beard, and get fat.’ I was like, ‘You’re a funny guy.’ And then it started to happen,” adds Love. “That’s how much he wanted to distance himself.”
Luckily for the ladies, D’Angelo has become comfortable again with his sexy image and posed for a cover shoot with the publication. While his trademark abs aren’t visible, the singer has his bulging biceps and bright smile on full display.
