Leela James has did a insurmountable job representing the appreciation of soul in the younger generation. Inspired by the great Etta James, Leela James did an exceptional job joining her new-age jazzy sound with Etta James’ classics including “At Last” and “I’d Rather Go Blind”. Though many who have grown up listening to Etta James or in the time of her peak will find something, if anything to compare her to the legendary singer, the younger generation of soul lovers will definitely appreciate her work with comparison.
It’s hard to even pinpoint three or four favorites out of the eleven, because whether the songs were from Etta James or Leela James, Leela knows how to rock out just like the late Etta James. Combining sounds of soul, rock, and jazz, James’ strong voice brings pure emotion back to music.
Since breaking on the scene in 2005, Leela James has paid homage to the incredible singers and songwriters that have paved the way for soul singers in his day and age. For that alone, Leela James is commended for her craft.
These legends are sometimes forgotten and we got to keep them alive because in my opinion, they represent what music really is and what music is suppose to be. When they are physically no longer with us, their soul is still here so we I feel like it’s a duty to keep stuff in people’s face and this how I’m doing it. This is how I’m keeping her soul in people’s faces. – Leela James Singersroom.com
